DOVER - Iva Laura Tyson Tazelaar passed away, Friday, July 14, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Tazelaar was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Waco, Texas to the late Rev. Joe M. Tyson and Venevian Brack Murphy Tyson.
While raising four very young children, Mrs. Tazelaar returned to shool and gained her LPN in 1962. She was employed in nursing positions in the Laurel, DE area. After moving to Dover in 1964, she was employed by, and became Executive Director of Dover Housing Authority until 1974. Mrs.Tazelaar then attended Wesley College in Dover and was awarded an AA degree in law, in 1976. She was employed for a short time by the law firm Hudson, Jones, & Jaywork, in Dover, as a paralegal. Mrs. Tazelaar had a love for planning events and baking cakes. This led her to begin her catering business, "Iva's Gallas". Along with her personal employment, Mrs. Tazelaar assisted her husband in the running of his business, "Tazelaar Roofing", taking messages and completeing all the taxes, billing, and bookwork.
Of all her accomplishments, the most important, and most proud of was her ability and opportunity to serve God and her fellow man throughout the world. She and her husband, Rev. Clifford Tazelaar, spent many hours preparing and then accompanying teams of volunteers to 53 different countries, where they built and rebuilt schools, medical clinics, hospitals, churches, and anything else needed, with the "Work and Witness" program through the Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Tazelaar was a member of the Cross Church of the Nazarene, Dover, DE.
In addition to her parents; she was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Clifford H. Tazelaar; brothers, Joe M. Tyson Jr., Dr. Luther E. Tyson; sisters, Virginia Mae Tyson Wiley, Avonel Tyson, and Sallie Joe Tyson Holm; her eldest son, James H. Tazelaar, his wife Karen R. Putney Tazelaar; and grandson, Mark H. Tazelaar.
She is survived by her children, John E. Tazelaar and wife Sharon; daughters, Mary A.Tazelaar Morris and husband Arthur, of Dover, and Leah B. Tazelaar and husband Lonny Hurd of Milford, DE.; grandchildren, Christopher A. Tazelaar, Elisabeth A. Tazelaar Russell, Jason E. Boller, Laura B. Boller, Adam J. Tazelaar, and Addison J. Tazelaar; great grandchildren, Marcus Q. Tazelaar, Sloane E. Tazelaar, Andrew P. Russell, Brian J. Russell, Cody W. Bland, Paige B. Legates, Isabella S. Legates, Marcilene L. Legates and Finn D. Legates; great great grandchild, Sebastian J. Stout.
We Would like to give a special thank you to the nurses at Christiana Care Home Health, and Accent Care Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care these past few months.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Cross Church of the Nazarene, 1818 N. Little Creek Rd., Dover, DE 19901. Friends may call 11-1:00PM. Interment will be private.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Cross Church of the Nazarene, memo Iva Tazelaar, for a missionary memorial to Clifford and Iva Tazelaar.
