Indian River School District students qualify for national BPA competition

Several Indian River School District students have qualified for the Business Professionals of America’s National Leadership Conference in Dallas on May 4-8.

Students from Indian River High School, Sussex Central High School, Selbyville Middle School and Georgetown Middle School qualified for nationals based upon their performance at the BPA State Leadership Conference, which featured a blend of remote and in-person competitions throughout February.

The following IRSD students qualified:

  • Lanaya Haynes (IRHS) — first place in Advanced Interview Skills and first place in Payroll Accounting.
  • Vicky Chan (IRHS) — first place in Fundamental Accounting, first place in Intermediate Word Processing, third place in Business Meeting Management, third place in Digital Marketing Concepts and fifth place in Project Management Concepts.
  • Emily Juan de Dios (IRHS) — first place in Administrative Support Research Project.
  • Hannah Rock (IRHS) — first place in Legal Office Procedures.
  • Kris Meister, Alex Quinn, Jack Jestice and Jordy Estrada (IRHS) — second place in Economic Research Team.
  • Olivia Turssline (IRHS) — third place in Payroll Accounting.
  • Samantha Teoli (IRHS) — third place in Payroll Accounting.
  • Kim Inthilath (IRHS) — third place in Prepared Speech.
  • Jordy Estrada (IRHS) — fifth place in Information Technology Concepts.
  • Allison Weldon (SCHS) — first place in Ethics & Professionalism and second place in Desktop Publishing.
  • Bryttnei Amankwaa, David Bohenick, Daxton Donaway and Harley Tidwell (SCHS) — first place in Podcast Production Team.
  • Joseph Rose (SCHS) — second place in PC Service and Troubleshooting and fourth place in Project Management Concepts.
  • Kaitlyn Kopf (SMS) — first place in Extemporaneous Speech.
  • Yannis Velazquez (GMS) — fourth place in Financial Literacy and fifth place in Digital Citizenship.

In addition, two members of the IRHS BPA chapter were elected to the state leadership team. They were Kim Inthilath (state secretary for 2022-23) and Jordy Estrada (state treasurer for 2022-23).

Three Indian River High students were also recognized for their service to the community through BPA’s Torch Awards Program: Vicky Chan, Alex Quinn and Jordy Estrada (Diplomat Level) and Jordy Estrada and Alex Quinn (Statesman Level).
