Howard R. Young Jr.

LINCOLN - Howard R. Young, Jr., passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at home. Howard was born in Milford, son of the late Howard R., Sr., and Isadore B. (Howe) Young. He was raised on his family farm on Union Church Road and was a farmer from his childhood until 1964. He worked for Acme for a short time and then was employed by General Foods for 38 ½ years as a machine operator and crew leader. After retirement in 2007, he worked for Milford Bonanza for 3 years. He also spent 7 years in the De National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed fishing, listening to gospel music, spending time with his family and community service, especially raising money for soldiers in need and other charities. He attended both Crossroad Community Church and Lincoln U.M. Church. In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Young Calloway. He is survived by three children, Kenneth H. Young, Joanne Wedderien and David L. Young; three grandchildren, Heather Drew and husband Carl, Shane Young and companion Amanda Volkomer, and Christian Calloway; a great-granddaughter, Karakoram Drew; and four siblings, Bob, Charles, Richard and James Young. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford with visitation after 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to two ministries dear to Howard's heart, Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, Del 19947 or Angel Wings International, 401 E.
