House passes infrastructure deal; Delaware Dems celebrate

Posted

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representatives passed President Joe Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure deal over the weekend, bringing the once-in-a-generation investment one step closer to fruition.

In response, Delaware Democratic Party Chair Betsy Maron gave thanks to Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester and Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons for their help in supporting President Biden “to advance the interests of the American people.”

Ms. Maron added that the plan would build roads, repair bridges, improve ports and ensure that every Delawarean has access to clean drinking water and high-speed internet.

Delaware would receive $1.2 billion to improve highways, $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs and $355 million to improve water infrastructure over five years, as well as a minimum of $100 million to help provide broadband coverage across the state. The legislation also would make 21% of people in the state eligible for the Affordability Connectivity Program, which will help low-income families afford internet access.
