DOVER — Kenny Carter’s third recruiting class at Delaware State University follows a similar theme to his first two.

Carter is still trying to find a quarterback.

Two quarterbacks and a pair of instate recruits highlight the high school class who signed with the Hornets on Wednesday.

The two new quarterbacks are Jack MacDaniels of Lorton, Va,. and Nasir Boykin of Philadelphia. Carter said both will compete for the starting quarterback job next year. DelState has used four different starting QBs under Carter over two seasons.

McDaniels (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns, while rushing for 450 yards and four scores as a senior at South County High this year. He holds all single season and career passing records at South County High.

“Extremely talented and heady player.,” Carter said. “Outstanding passer who had a record- setting senior season and high school career. More than just a passer, Jack has the ability to hurt defenses with his running ability as well.  He will no doubt be in the mix for our starting QB spot next season.”

Boykin (6-0, 185) has led Philadelphia’s Imhotep High School to a 28-1 overall record and state championship game appearances in each of the last two season, winning the title as a junior in 2015. Boykin was a high school teammate of current DSU running back Mike Waters, who set DSU freshman single-game and season rushing records in 2016.

“First and foremost, Nasir is a winner,” Carter said. “He has led one of the most successful high school programs in Philadelphia to great success during his career. I’m certain he will make a push for our starting QB position next season.”

Newark High’s Tyreek Booker has signed with the Hornets. Booker was primarily a lineman during his four years with the Yellow Jackets, but the Hornets plans to use him at tight end. Wide receiver Michael Credle of Glasgow High will also join the Hornets next season.

Other players to sign with DSU on Wednesday include — defensive lineman Jonathan Coste from Queens, N.Y.,  offensive lineman from Brantford, Ontario, Canada, linebacker Bahari Holloway, from Ontario, California,  wide receiver Angelo Gonzalez from Homestead, Florida, defensive back Kamari Jackson from Newport News, Virginia, linebacker Kwannah Kollie from Staten Island, N.Y., linebacker Alexander Lozano from Jersey City, N.J., kicker Jose Romo-Martinez from Banning, California, offensive lineman Liki Seu from Bellflower, California and defensive tackle Isaiah Williams from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Romo-Martinez is the younger brother of current DSU punter Fidel Romo-Martinez.

“I believe we addressed our most critical needs with this group,” Carter said. “We needed to re-tool at the quarterback position, in addition to strengthening our offensive and defensive lines. We also needed to boost our overall size and speed, and I feel we have succeeded in those goals.”

“I was equally impressed with the character and academic credentials of these young men,” he added. “Each should be a good fit for the team and the university.”
