Hilda (Gross) Blair, 87

DOVER - Hilda (Gross) Blair of Dover passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, in the Capitol Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 87.

Born on June 27, 1920, in State College, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John R. and Eva C. Gross.

She graduated from State College High School in 1937.

After graduation, she went to work for Mary K. Stewart Real Estate Agency until her marriage to John H. Blair on June 18, 1939.

After her marriage she resided at the Blair farm, Wind Ridge, Pa.

In 1953 the family moved to Waynesburg, Pa., where she worked three years as a bookkeeper for Long & Co., and then 26 years as office manager for Wellslee Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

They moved to Carmichaels, Pa., in October 1969.

She was a member/secretary for the Children's Literary Guild and Social Service League of Waynesburg; a volunteer for the Greene County Memorial Hospital snack bar; a member of the Women's Monday Night Bowling League, Triangle Lanes; and a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesburg and the Christian Church of Carmichaels.

After retirement in 1982, she spent her summers at the Rices Landing Boat Club on the Monongahela River, where she enjoyed boating, swimming, water skiing, planting flowers, feeding birds and other wildlife and sharing all the good times with her family and club members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol B. Spragg of Dover and her husband Charles R. Spragg, with whom she resided for the past four years; two sons, John L. Blair II of Waynesburg and his wife Wilma (Ayersman) Blair and Larry H. Blair of Wind Ridge, Pa., and his wife Ann Pratt Blair; five grandchildren, Peggy Blair Stewart and her husband Lyle of West Findley, Pa., John L. Blair III and his wife Marianne of Rices Landing, Michael L. Blair and his wife Lauri of Waynesburg, Deborah Spragg Hicks and her husband Marlon of Chugiak, Alaska, and Cynthia Spragg Churchill and her husband Barry of Fort Fairfield, Maine; and nine great-grandchildren, John Michael Stewart, Matthew Robert Stewart, Samuel Bryan Stewart, Courtney Lynne Churchill, Tyler Raye Churchill, Trevor Cole Hicks, Ashley Blair Hicks, Alison Grace Blair and Jeffrey Michael Blair.

A memorial service will be held in Waynesburg.
