FELTON - First Sgt. Herbert H. Becker, Retired US Army passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. He was 77. Born to the late Richard and Elizabeth Becker. Mr. Becker served active duty in the New York Army National Guard for 45 years before retiring. He was also a New York City Firefighter, and retired from there after 24 years. In his spare time, Mr. Becker loved to go fishing. He also enjoyed older model trucks, vintage cars, and listening to old country western music. He was also a devoted animal lover. He will be remembered as a very outstanding, trustworthy, and strong willed man. He never raised his voice, or said an unkind word about anyone. He would go out of his way to help others even after his stroke. Whether it was putting packages in the car for an elderly lady or driving someone around a parking lot to help them find their car, he was there to help. Mr. Becker was a very devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Becker was a member of the Order of St. Barbara, the Patron Saint of Field Artillery, and a Free and Accepted Mason and Past Master of Ridgewood Lodge #710 in New York City. He was preceded in death by son, Wayne M. Becker; and daughter, Debra E. Allar; sisters, Elfrieda Kern and Richarda Brown He is survived by his loving wife of 25 ½ years, LeaArbri Blalock-Becker of Felton; son, Matthew H. Becker of Los Angelos, Calif.; daughter, Ruby L. Becker of Macon, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, including Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Aprigliano, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald E. Robinson, Mr. Jimmie Peden, and nine godchildren. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one and a half hours before the service.
