Henlopen well represented in baseball, softball tourneys

Six teams from the Henlopen Conference will be playing postseason baseball as the DIAA announced the tournament field on Thursday evening.

Dover High has the best seed of all Henlopen Conference teams at No. 5 and will host 12th-seeded Delaware Military Academy at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

No. 7 Sussex Tech will meet 10th-seed Cape Henlopen at 11 a.m. and Smyrna earned the 14th seed. The Eagles will travel to No. 3 Caravel at 1 p.m. in a rematch of a quarterfinal game from last year.

Sussex Central is seeded 15th and plays at Salesianum at 2 p.m. while Milford had the Henlopen South automatic bid to make the tournament as the 16 seed. The Buccaneers will travel to St. Mark's at 1 p.m. for their first round matchup.

On the softball side, 10 teams from the Henlopen Conference qualified.

Delmar is the top seed and will host Henlopen South rival Lake Forest at 11 a.m.

Laurel is second and meets Smyrna in another all Henlopen Conference affair (1 p.m.). Polytech is fourth and hosts Indian River at 11 a.m.

Caesar Rodney got the sixth seed and plays Woodbridge at noon. Other Henlopen teams in the tournament include Sussex Tech, seeded ninth who faces DMA at Midway Little League at 1 p.m., and Cape Henlopen who travels to Caravel for a 1 p.m. start.
