
DOVER - Helen M. Johnson, transitioned from this life to her heavenly one on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mrs. Johnson was born February 27, 1923 in Bowie, Md. to the late Norman Beckett and Eva Moreland Beckett. She worked as a secretary for Southern Oxygen Company in Bladensburg, Md. and later retired from the University of Maryland Registrars Office in College Park. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed working with plants and flowers but most of all she loved being with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith and her church were a vital part of her life. She was formerly a member of the 1st Baptist Church in New Carrollton, Md., Glenn Dale Baptist in Glen Dale, Md. and currently a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, James S. McBride in 1959; her daughter, Becky Marie McBride in 1954; and her 2nd husband, Frank Johnson in 1999. She is survived by her son, Rev. James McBride and his wife Daphne, of Dover; daughter, Cindy Lepore and her husband James, of Griffin, Ga; sister, Jerri Robey of Bowie, Md; grandchildren, James McBride, Jr., Tonya Robles and Heather Baird; great-grandchildren, Hannah McBride, Benjamin McBride, Samuel Robles and Nicholas Ring. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 761 S. Little Creek Road, Dover. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday morning at church. Interment will be at the Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
