HURLOCK - Helen Ellen Dyes, 80, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Camden, N.J., daughter of the late Raleigh George English and Flossie Ellen Griffith English.

She had worked at Acme Canning in Hurlock and later at Hurlock Sportswear until her retirement.

Mrs. Dyes was a member of First Baptist Church in East New Market.

She is survived by three sons, John Elmer Dyes Jr. of Hurlock, James H. Dyes of Hurlock, and Charles W. Dyes of East New Market; one daughter, Dianna Horseman of Hurlock; seven grandchildren, James H. Dyes Jr., Crystal L. Riggin, Elizabeth Short, John W. Dyes, Sierra Horseman, Jenny Toomey and Michael K. Dyes; nine great-grandchildren, Chelsea Dyes, Kelsey Riggin, James H. "D.J." Dyes III, Katilyn Dyes, McKenzie Toomey, Grace Dyes, Gage Dyes, Brianna Toomey and Gabriella Riggin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Elmer Dyes Sr., to whom she had been married for 55 years, on Feb. 12, 2003; one granddaughter, Zoe R. Dyes; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Riggin; one sister, Louise Brown and three brothers, Howard English, George English and Gilbert English.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Robert King officiating. Burial will follow in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.

Pallbearers will be Frank Wright, Russ Stevens, Jeff Fletcher, John Dyes, J. D.Dyes, Ed Powell and Ace Horseman. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Dyes and Chris Riggin.

Memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
