FREDERICA - Hazel T. Smith, 80, of Frederica and formerly of Argo's Corner passed away very peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, in Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (Stevenson) Argo. She was a graduate of Milford High School. In 1949, she was named Miss Milford and was a runner up in the Miss Delaware Pageant that same year. She worked as a Librarian in the Milford Middle School for over 20 years. Hazel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge of the International Order of Odd Fellows. She enjoyed doing ceramics, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, as well as working in her garden and playing golf. Hazel loved to have her toes in the sand from Slaughter Beach to Destin, Fla. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Hazel was a cancer survivor. She walked with the angels here on earth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald M. Smith; and two brothers, Russell Argo and John Argo. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James M. Smith; a daughter, Nancy Lee Drew and her fiancee' Frank Woomer, of Milford; and three grandsons, Scott Smith, Todd Smith and Brian Smith, all of Middletown; along with several nieces and nephews and friends near to her heart. A Celebration of Hazel's Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, #205, New Castle, DE 19720 - 1633 or the American Heart Association, 600 North Dupont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947-2146. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, DE.
