Hazel Slaughter, 88
EASTON, Md. - Hazel Slaughter, of Easton, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008, in the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Berlin. She was 88.
Born in St. Michaels on Jan. 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Florence Skinner Caldwell.
Mrs. Slaughter was raised in Talbot County and graduated from the Cordova High School.
After the passing of her first husband, Taylor Messix, she attended cosmetology school in Baltimore.
She settled in Easton and went to work at the Hair House, where she worked until she retired in 1995 with more than 35 years of service to her valued customers.
Mrs. Slaughter was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Easton. She would also often volunteer at the St. Mark's Thrift Shop.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Florence Caldwell, who passed away in February 1995.
She is survived by one daughter, Theresa Johnson, and her husband, Ross, of Selbyville, Del.; one foster daughter, Ginny Boyle, and her husband, Mark, of Centreville; two sisters, Doris Newell of Baltimore, and Florence Horney of Easton; four grandchildren, Hollie Ellerbusch of Annapolis, Erik Ellerbusch of Cambridge, and Kodie Johnson and Trey Johnson, both of Selbyville; and one foster granddaughter, Amy Williamson of Federalsburg.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Federalsburg, with the Rev. Gary Moore of St. Mark's United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will take place at Greenmount Cemetery, Hillsboro.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her memory in care of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601.
