Harry Walton Willis

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Harry W. Willis, of Hershey Pa. and formerly of Chestertown, Md. died on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 in the Country Meadows retirement village in Hershey Pa., where he had resided for the past 7 years. Mr. Willis was born near Locust Grove, Kennedyville, Md., the son of the late Samuel Merritt and Clara Walbert Willis. After a tour in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and service on Okinawa, Mr. Willis choose to come home to Kent County to create a career in business and community service. He owned and operated Harry's Auto Repair, which became Harry's auto dealership and the Chestertown Sears catalogue store as well as a local school bus contractor. He attained his Real Estate Appraisers license, and finally served as Chairman of the Board of Kent Savings and Loan in Chestertown, Md. Mr. Willis loved his family and loved to fly, for many years he owned and operated his own plane. He was truly a "Mr. Fix It "anything you brought him he tried to fix and loved doing so. He was one of the first members of the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, joining in 1963, and was a member of the Frank Jarman American Legion Post #36, Chestertown, Md. In addition to his parents, Mr. Willis is predeceased by his wife, Ann N. Willis in 2006; two brothers, Walbert and Merritt Willis; and a sister, Grace Phillips. He is survived by his daughters, Dee and her husband Chris of Hummelstown, Pa. and Sherry and her husband Bill of Millsboro, Del.; and his granddaughter, Amy and her husband Dan Wagaman, of Elizabethtown, Pa. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown, Md. where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory to the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD. 21620.
