Harry Layfield Pettyjohn, 75

SEAFORD - Harry Layfield Pettyjohn of Seaford passed Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 75.

He was born to the late Harry and Ethel Pettyjohn on April 2, 1932.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.

For many years, Mr. Pettyjohn was employed by the City of Rehoboth before later gaining employment with Draper King Cole of Milton, from which he retired.

Mr. Pettyjohn is survived by his wife, Peggy Ames Pettyjohn; one sister, Annie D. Pettyjohn, both of Seaford; one daughter, Barbara Hood Baker and her husband, Dale of Gainesville, Fla.; one son, Herbert M. Hood of Lawton, Okla.; four grandchildren, Megan Hood, Mandi Hood and Brittany Hood, all of Seaford, and Brian Hood of Lawton; one great-grandson, Jaden Hood of Seaford; one niece, Ethel Purnell and her husband William of Bridgeville; two great-nieces, Valencia "Peaches" Purnell of Bridgeville and Vonshella Purnell of Laurel; one great-nephew, William Purnell of Felton; six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Dondre, Christopher, Kevonta, Chauntese, Orlando and Brandee; his extended family, Pearl Hermon and her children, Michelle Church, Chrystal, Lavonia; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be noon today at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Seaford, where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
