HARRINGTON — A 16-year-old Harrington resident was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,000 after a reported vehicle accident Sunday, authorities said.

According to Harrington Police spokesman Capt. Earl K. Brode, police were called to the intersection of Mechanic and Fleming streets at 7:10 p.m. for a report of a vehicle accident involving a motorized bicycle and a vehicle. Prior to police arriving, a person operating the bicycle fled the scene on foot, police said.

When police arrived they determined that the bicycle involved in the accident was stolen earlier in the day from a residence on West Center Street, according to authorities. Police searched the area but could not locate the suspect. At approximately 9 p.m. that evening Harrington Police was contacted by the Emergency Department at Milford Memorial Hospital reporting that a juvenile came to the hospital reporting that he was involved in an accident in Harrington.

Police responded to the hospital and during the course of the investigation determined that the juvenile was the one involved in the accident in Harrington, Capt. Brode said. He was released from the Hospital and processed at the Harrington Police Department. He was released to the custody of his parent pending a future court appearance in Kent County Family Court.
