Two Harrington men were arrested on multiple criminal charges after property was stolen from unlocked vehicles in Camden and Frederica, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
According to authorities, during the overnight hours Monday into Tuesday, Jaleel M. Reed, 22, and William J. Adams, 26, traveled to the Waters Edge community in Frederica and the Wynn Wood community in Camden. Once in the developments, the two men allegedly entered unlocked vehicles and stole money, credit/debit cards, cellphones, identifications and a firearm with ammunition.
After stealing the property, Cpl. Pepper said, the men went to businesses in Camden and Harrington and used the stolen credit cards. Through investigation, Mr. Reed and Mr. Adams were identified as suspects, and they were taken into custody without incident at a residence in Harrington.
The men were charged with multiple counts of second- and third-degree conspiracy, theft of a firearm, theft under $1,500, third-degree criminal trespass, unauthorized use of a credit card and attempt to commit unlawful use of a credit card. Mr. Reed was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Mr. Reed was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover, and released after posting a $30,005 cash bond. Mr. Adams was arraigned in JP Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $15,005 secured bond.
Police asked anyone in the affected communities who experienced a theft or attempted theft from their vehicle and have not reported the incident to contact Trooper Dukes by calling 697-4454.
