Bradley, 94 SMYRNA - Harriet (Cahall) Bradley, of Smyrna, Del., died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 29. She was 94 years old. Born on a small farm in Cecil County, Md., she was one of nine children. She and her siblings worked on the farm during their childhood; she also helped manage the farm and the family during World War II, when her oldest brothers enlisted. Harriet graduated from George Biddle High School in Cecilton, Md.. She also attended a one-room schoolhouse in Templeville, Md.. While she never put much stock in formal education, her sharp wit and curiosity led her to be a lifelong student of subjects from human anatomy to human nature. She met her adoring husband, George, in the Triumph munitions factory in Elkton, Md., where she worked as a fuse-setter during World War II. George preceded her in death in 2003. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage, and loved camping in their RV, visiting yard sales, and collecting antiques and glassware. Harriet was a loyal employee of the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill for 24 years, and afterwards for many years an active member of the DHCI Auxiliary. She was a great cook and baker, taking immense pleasure in baking chocolate chip cookies, coconut cakes, and many other desserts for family, friends, and bake sales. Family was the most important thing in her life. She was the devoted sister of Dot, Preston, Billy, Jimmy, Leon, and Robert, and devoted daughter to her parents, Eva and William, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her baby sisters, Mary Edna Carty of Middletown and Joann Drummond of Warwick; sisters-in-law, Frances Bradley of Summit Bridge and Marie Cahall of Hacks Point; her daughter Joan Beverly (Michael) McGrath of Smyrna; and her grandchildren Joy McGrath (Ty Jones) of New Haven, CT., Joshua McGrath (Kimberly Monahan) of Lexington, KY., and Hope McGrath (Carey Kopeikin) of Mercersburg, PA.; and her great-grandson, Bradley William Kopeikin. A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DHCI Women's Auxiliary, 100 Sunnyside Rd., Smyrna, DE 19977, or to Asbury UMC, 20 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, DE 19977. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
