Harold Austin Yoesoep

Harold Austin Yoesoep, 71

DOVER - Harold Austin Yoesoep was born on Dec. 8, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Amat and LaPearl Yoesoep. He was sixth of seven children. He departed on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at Kent General Hospital due to cardiac arrest. He attended Westinghouse House High School, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in his early 20's. He was honorably discharged three years after his enlistment and began a 37-year career as an Engineer at New York City's Con Edison. He married Nereida Ortiz from Cayey, Puerto Rico on June 15, 1963. From their union, came Harold A. Yoesoep Jr. of New York City, N.Y., Minerva A. Yoesoep of Dover, and Yolanda L. Yoesoep of Charlotte, N.C. In 1999, he retired from Con Edison and permanently moved to Dover, where he enjoyed his retirement with his wife and his dog, "BoBo." He regularly attended The Filipino-American Christian Fellowship of Dover. Along with his wife and three children, he is survived by his only grandson, Sean Austin Yoesoep, a college student at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, N.C.; five of his six siblings and their respective spouses, Doris Estebar of Dover, Amat Yoesoep (Elsa Yoesoep) of Harrington, Gwendolyn Santohir (Urip Santohir) of Dover, Stephen Yoesoep (Doris) of Harrington, and Ethel Napiza (Ernie Napiza) of Smyrna. The eldest sibling, Gromayda Capito, "May-May," passed on Sept. 8, 2001. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins share in the fond memories of "Uncle Harry." Harry's "Celebration of Life" events will be held at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 West Division Street, Dover. Family and friends may call from 7-9 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 20 for the viewing and participate in the "Celebration of Life Services" at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21. Following the service, family and friends are asked to accompany Harry to the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware for his interment.
