TURNERSVILLE, NJ - Grover C. Simpson peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 19, 2012 with his wife and family by his side. An honest, hard-working, patriotic man with a quick wit is the legacy that Grover leaves behind. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Grover attended Overbrook High School. When World War II broke out, Grover entered the United States Navy in November 1942. He fought as a Gunner's Mate on the USS Mobile which was awarded 11 battle stars and earned the motto, "Mow 'em down, Mobile!" Grover was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1823, Philadelphia for more than 50 years and spent most of those years with Reinhart Incorporated, specializing in Interior Design. Grover enjoyed camping, fishing, crabbing, gardening, and cheering on the Phillies and Eagles. Most of all, Grover enjoyed the special memories that he made with his family and friends. Grover was the beloved husband of 60 years to Katherine (nee Brockmeyer); loving father of Rev. Dr. Guy (wife, Susan) Simpson and Gale Campbell; and grandfather of eight. Grover was preceded in death by parents, Grover C. and Matilda (nee Fischer) Simpson; and his siblings, Matilda Murdock, Caroline Casey, Emma Montgomery, Alberta Branyan, Doris Simpson and Grover C. Simpson. Relatives and friends are invited to join Grover's family for a memorial service to be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Independent Bible Fellowship Church, 6797 Milford Harrington Hwy., Harrington, DE. Grover's son, Rev. Dr. Guy Simpson, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Grover's memory may be made to The U.S. Navy Memorial at www.navymemorial.org.
