Greenwood VFW opens annual Patriot’s Contest

GREENWOOD — Schools are in session for most of America’s children and youth, and the Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 7478 and its Auxiliary announces that the 2021-2022 student entry brochures have arrived for the Patriot’s Pen Contest and the Voice of Democracy Contest.

“How Can I Be A Good American?” is this year’s theme for the annual VFW Patriot’s Pen Contest which is open to sixth through eighth grade students enrolled by the Oct. 31 deadline in public, private or parochial schools in the U.S., its territories. Home-schooled students also are eligible. Entries must be submitted to a participating VFW Post in their area and the local Post must be within the state where entries reside.

The theme for this year’s Voice Of Democracy contest for students in grades nine through 12 is, “America: Where Do We Go from Here?”

Students must be enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school study by the Oct. 31, deadline. The contest is also open to students in home study programs in the U.S., its territories.
Brochures explain how to enter, the contest rules, what is the Voice of Democracy Program/Patriot’s Pen Contest, Judging of contest entries, deadline information and official student’s competition forms and potential national prizes. All Information and rules must be followed in order to compete.

Brochures may be found in the Bridgeville Public Library, Greenwood Public Library, Mr. Harry Blake at Woodbridge High School and Woodbridge Middle School. Brochures can be mailed by contacting Rev. Dr. Michaele Russell (Scholarships Chairman) at 349-4220.
