WYOMING - Grace E. Moore died Saturday, June 21, 2004 at home. Grace was the wife of Ralph Byron Moore and daughter of the late Edna Harriett Truitt Longfellow and John William Longfellow. She was born in a little white house in Sandtown, Delarware, which she often enjoyed riding by. As a small girl, she and her family moved to a farm near Stanton's Cross Roads and worked there with her brothers and sisters. At age seventeen, she left the family farm to marry Byron Moore. They started a dairy farm in 1946. At Byron's side she milked cows, raised turkeys, chickens, guineas, sold eggs, raised bees, sold honey and tended to many years of crop growing. Grace loved humming birds, cats, and flowers. She was very proud of attending Jump School and later the Felton School. She was a sweet caring person that many called "Granny Grace". Having lost a daughter, at birth in 1952, Grace was caring of and enjoyed little children, especially little boys. Longing to be a "Mom", she often said "she was Eugene's Dill's mom", whom was her lifelong friend and caregiver for the last several years. Grace was able to live at home throughout her recent illness, with the help of Wanda Hudson, Mary Strouse and Kerry Towers. The last few days of her life was made more peaceful by the help of Delaware Hospice. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2009; and brothers, Leroy and Gene Longfellow; and sister, Edna "Mary" Murphy. She is survived by four brothers, Vincent, Floyd, Charles and Joseph Longfellow; and a sister, Dorothy Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday June 27, 2014 in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, Main Street Felton, where friends may call on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. for a viewing. Interment will be Mt. Olive Cemetery Sandtown, Delaware. Donations can be made to the Delaware Hospice at 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
