CAMBRIDGE - Gorman M. "Whiskers" Lankford Sr., 70, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.

He was born in Drawbridge on June 22, 1936, and was a son of the late Franklin M. and Helen Marshall Lankford.

Mr. Lankford attended school in Vienna. On Dec. 19, 1959, he married Ramona Abbott who passed away on June 24, 2005.

He served with the U.S. Army National Guard in the 29th Division. Mr. Lankford was a self-employed mechanic. He also worked for several other auto mechanic dealers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camp, crabbing and going to the races.

Mr. Lankford was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, the 29th Division Association and Our Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda DesMoines of Cambridge and Theresa Johnson of Cambridge; a son, Gorman M. Lankford Jr. of Easton; eight grandchildren, Jami Robinson, Jeffery Lankford, Tommy Johnson III, Lorraine Lankford, Tyler Johnson, Kwazi Robinson, Karen Hill and Mark Curtis; five great-grandchildren Samantha Forbes, Mikayla Dill, Tristan Hill, Kurt Hill and Bruce Hill; four sisters, Gloria Frazier of Madison, Betty Dean Hoopers Island, Phyllis Willey of Georgia and Esther Fletcher of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, and wife he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Lankford; two brothers, Earl Lankford and Donald Lankford and two sisters, Mildred Webster and Myrtle Marie Lankford.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1312 Race Street in Cambridge with the Rev. Ray Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.

A visitation will be Monday, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the church.

Pallbearers will be J.C. Webster, Jerry Clark, Thomas Clark, Frank Willey, Jody Abbott, and David Willey. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Simmons and Sam Adkins.

Services are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., in Cambridge.
