Gordon Lee Minner

DOVER - Lt. Col. Gordon "Gordy" Lee Minner (USAF Ret.) passed away early Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at his home in Dover, Del. Born in Marion, Ky. and raised in Tolu and Louisville, Ky. he was the son of the late Minish and Dortha Minner. He was a 1968 graduate of the University of Louisville and later completed his Masters Degree from Wilmington College. It didn't matter if it was baseball, basketball, golf, softball, or darts his competitiveness was unparalleled when it came to sports. His military career spanned from Vietnam to Dessert Storm where he ruled the skies as a pilot in the cockpit of the C-5 Galaxy. Not only could Gordy fly it, he could also teach it. After retirement he continued to support the military through his work with Flight Safety at Dover AFB. He loved travel and especially cherished the times when it involved family. Destinations such as Alaska, Hawaii, Cancun, Lake Placid, Florida, Tennessee and San Francisco topped his list. He will be missed by the countless lives he touched and especially by those who knew and loved him. Gordon leaves behind his loving wife of over 47 years, Betty Minner of Dover, Del., his daughter and son- in-law, Erin and Christopher Klein of Dover, Del., his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Carla Minner and his beautiful granddaughter, Sofia Minner, all of Chicago, Ill., brother Frank Minner of Carmel, Ind., brother Lynn Minner of Greenbrier, Tenn., and his sister Mary Ann Leboeuf of Wayland, Mich. Relatives and friends are invited to Holy Cross Catholic Church on Monday Dec. 22, 2014 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers family suggests donation in his memory be directed to support Dr. Ivan Borello at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, 750 E.
