Gladys W. Hobbs

HARRINGTON - Gladys W. Hobbs, of Harrington, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at home. Mrs. Hobbs was the daughter of the late Carroll W. and Violet M. (Tucker) Wix. She worked at the Harrington Raceway, Brandywine Raceway and Dover Downs in the concession stands as well as worked the car races. She also helped her husband Jim with his television business. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the race horses her husband owned run at the different raceways. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play ball as well as attending every evening of the Delaware State Fair. She was a member of the Beacon Country Church in Camden, the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington and the Harrington Senior Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hobbs; and a granddaughter, Lisa Muhs. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Faye Dennis and her husband Ralph, and Phyllis A. Bonniwell and her husband George III, all of Harrington; a brother, C. Leslie Wix, of Harrington; 3 grandchildren, April McColley and her husband Mike; Donna Vandenheuvel and her husband Kenny and Jamie Dennis and his wife Sarina; 10 great grandchildren, Brittany Porter, Courtney Haass and her husband Patrick, Destiney Taylor, Bethany McColley, Trevor McColley, Emilee Vandenheuvel, James Michael Dennis, Alisyn Dennis, Amira Dennis and Collin Dennis; one great granddaughter, Hayden Haass; 3 adopted grandchildren, the "Butler Girls" Cherlyn, Linda Faye and Karen; and her closest friend of 57 years, Edna Butler. Friends may call from 7 - 9 p.m. on Sunday evening, May 12, 2013 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington where funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon, May 13 at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington.
