Gladys H. Derrickson

MILLSBORO - Gladys H. Derrickson passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012, after a brief illness. Gladys was born near Milford, Del. on January 17, 1920, daughter of the late Josiah B and Vernie B. Hostedler. She had worked at Peninsula Finance and County Loan Company in Millsboro for many years before retiring from Blazer Financial Services. Gladys enjoyed knitting, crocheting and raising African violets from seed. Her greatest joy was keeping track of her many relatives and their families in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, J. Edward Derrickson and her six brothers and sisters, Beulah, David, Milton, Katherine, Violet and Harold. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey K. Derrickson and his wife, Grace R. and two grandchildren, Sara and Scott, of Hockessin, Del. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who fondly called her "Dear Aunt Gladys". The family would like to thank the staff of Genesis in Milford for their extraordinary care where Gladys spent recent months. A viewing will be held at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave , in Milford on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, where family and friends may call from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Interment will be private in St Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood, Del. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Brethren, c/o Watha Hostetler, P.O. Box 91, Farmington, DE 19950 or to Mt Olivet Brethren Church, c/o Elaine Fike, 28096 Shortly Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
