Gertrude M. Helms

DOVER - Gertrude M. Helms, 102, formerly of Bethlehem, Pa., died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sharyn Helms, in Dover. Born in Bethlehem on Dec. 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Ella (Hood) Moll. She was the wife of the late Dr. David O. Helms. Gertrude was a 1931 graduate of Cedar Crest College where she earned her teaching degree. She taught in both the Bethlehem and Scotch Plains, N.J. school districts. She was a long time member of the Rosemont Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, where she also sang in the choir. She will be remembered by her daughter, Vida; and sons, Peter and Joseph; her three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 1975; and her grandson, Timothy in 1976. Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A 2 p.m. memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Rosemont Lutheran Church, 1705 West Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Seasons Hospice, 556 S. DuPont Highway, Suite 1, Milford, DE 19963.
