HARRINGTON - Gerald Kellam Layne, Jr., 62, of Harrington, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2013 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. Mr. Layne was born in Williamsburg, Va. the son of the late Gerald Kellam Layne, Sr. and Shirley (Richardson) Cooper. He joined the Coast Guard after graduation from high school. He was working as the Assistant Lane Manager for the Dept. of Motor Vehicle in Georgetown when he became ill. He was a member Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was currently serving as the Chairman of the Administration Board, a member of the Church's Cathedral Choir and of the Heavenly Ringers; and was Past President of the Asbury U.M. Church Methodist Men and was formerly Superintendent of the Church's Sunday School. He was also a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge #9 of Milford, where he was Past Master and also served as the Lodge's Chapter Advisor for the DeMolay; was Past President of the Archeological Society of Delaware and Past President of the Kent County Archeological Society. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ruth Munro Layne; three sons, Jeffrey Layne of Ellsworth, Maine; John Layne and his wife Lisa, of Harrington; and Richard Layne, of Shamokin, Pa.; an adopted daughter, Stacey Layne; a brother, Mark Layne and his wife Candice of Showell, Md. and Nanette Layne, of Berlin, Md.; a granddaughter, Gabriella Layne; and Uncle Glen and Cora Layne of Forest Ville, Md. and Uncle Bobby Murrey, of Salisbury, Md. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington where Masonic Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. followed by the funeral service. Burial with military honors will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Heavenly Ringers, c/o Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952.
