SMYRNA - Georgia Lee Woodley, of Smyrna, died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 88. Mrs. Woodley was born June 13, 1922, in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Slaughter. Georgia was raised in Woodlawn Farm in Smyrna, which is now the Thomas England House. She was one of seven children in the Slaughter family. She attended John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna and graduated in 1943. She worked as Nurse for the State Welfare Home in Smyrna for 35 years and retired in 1991. In 1947, Georgia married Charles F. Woodley from Little Creek, and together they had two children, Charles and Jean Ann Woodley. In 1956, they moved to Smyrna across the road from the farmhouse that they sold to buy their home. Georgia attended the First Presbyterian Church on Commerce Street in Smyrna, where she taught Sunday school for 12 years. Both of Georgia's children graduated from John Bassett Moore High School. Her husband, Charles Woodley worked for Suburban Propane Gas Company for 31 years and retired in 1983. Both Charles and Georgia enjoyed traveling by ship and bus after their retirements. Georgia Lee was a friendly and caring person all her life. She enjoyed helping her sister Mary Ennis, whom was sick for 10 years, eight of which she was bed ridden. She also took care of her brother-in-law, Dick Ennis until they both passed away. Georgia Lee loved meeting people and helping care for sick people all her life. She started getting sick over the years and needed help. Her son, Charles Woodley, III, moved from Dover to Smyrna to take care of her and his dad for eight years. She will be dearly missed a lot now that she has gone to heaven. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
