GEORGETOWN – A community-based drive in Georgetown to offer the joy of an Easter egg hunt during a worldwide pandemic will roll - in “reverse.”
Saturday, March 27 is the date for the Reverse/Drive Thru Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored jointly by the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Georgetown.
“We are hoping this lifts some spirits,” said Linda Price, president of the Greater Georgetown Chamber.
The event will run two hours, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at specified drive-thru points along The Circle in downtown Georgetown.
According to Ms. Price, two areas will be set up, one in front of Georgetown Town Hall and the other in front of The Brick Hotel. Both areas will be coned off for people to drive up where event volunteers will pass out cellophane bags with Easter eggs filled with toys.
“There will be an Easter Bunny at each area waving to the kids,” said Ms. Price.
The hope is to distribute 4,000 to 6,000 eggs, Ms. Price said.
Georgetown Chamber’s VIP partners are contributing support to this event.
Local entertainer DJ Sky Brady will be on hand in The Circle to provide music, which will be broadcast locally on a designated radio station/frequency that people can tune in to.
In the spring of 2020, virtually all community Easter egg hunts and events were cancelled because of the pandemic.
Despite the shutdown, the Easter Bunny did make a solo appearance last April in Georgetown, waving to children and adults in vehicles as they rode around The Circle.
