LINCOLN — Isaac J. Pettit, a 19-year-old from Georgetown, was arrested by Delaware State Police on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Monday in Lincoln.
DSP spokesperson Cpl. Amina Ali said that, around 8:49 a.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of U.S. 113 and West Hudson Pond Road saw a blue Nissan Altima traveling southbound on U.S. 113 at a high rate of speed.
A trooper made a traffic stop and then contacted the driver, identified as Mr. Pettit. The trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from the car, Cpl. Ali said. Subsequently, a probable-cause search was conducted, and the trooper discovered about 0.32 grams of marijuana and a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun inside the car, police said.
Mr. Pettit was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7, Lewes, where he was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited (felony), possession of marijuana (civil) and speeding. He was released on his own recognizance.
