CAMBRIDGE - George Webster Adams, a resident of Cambridge for eight years, died of heart failure on Monday, March 2, 2009. He was 64. A Licensed Professional Engineer who worked in art conservation with his wife, Christy Cunningham-Adams, Mr. Adams' career included all aspects of naval and marine engineering and vessel design, stress and performance analysis in aerodynamics, and analysis of structural failure in all types of materials. An elected member of the American Society of Media Photographers, Mr. Adams' photographs of the marshes of Dorchester County reveal his particular interest and sensitivity to nature and light. As an active Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge volunteer, Mr. Adams surveyed refuge marshes to monitor and map changes in the health and diversity of the vegetation, and in his support of the preservation of the character and history of Cambridge, he served on the Historic Preservation Commission Board. He is survived by his wife, Christy Cunningham-Adams; brother, Elliott Adams of Sharon Springs, N.Y.; his sister, Harriet Adams of Washington D.C.; and his close companion, his dog Tully. A Time of Fellowship with members of his family will be hosted by his friend and neighbor Anna Mae Welcher at 705 Maryland Avenue on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Reception and Exhibition of his photography will be held at Gallery 1683 in Annapolis on a date to be announced in the near future. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Friends of Blackwater, P.O. Box 1231,Cambridge, MD 21613.
