
DOVER - George F. Fortner died Feb. 15, 2013 at Bay Health Medical Center in Dover. Born in Williamsport, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles H. and Ruth E. Hayes Fortner. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School and graduated from Lycoming College of Williamsport in 1955 with a B.S. in Retailing. George was elected Class President in 1955 and holds a career rebounding record of 1,174 rebounds in Basketball at Lycoming. He was an original member of the areas Little League Program which was founded in Williamsport, Pa. in 1939 where he played for the Lundy Lumber Team. He was inducted into the Lycoming Warriors Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1955 George married Dolores "Dee" Stanzione and had served as a Manager for the Sears and Roebuck Co. for the next forty-five years. He was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover and was a long-time member of Maple Dale C.C. where he enjoyed playing Golf. He was a faithful fan of the Phila. Phillies and enjoyed numerous Golf outings throughout the years. He was a devoted and loving husband who also loved the time spent with his family and friends. His witty humor that kept most at ease will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Feb. 21, 2013 at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. Dover, DE. where friends may call starting at 9:30 a.m. Private Burial will be in Pa. Family suggests that in lieu of flowers you make a donation in his name to your favorite charity.
