GALENA, Md. - George A. Briscoe of Galena died Friday, June 1, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 83.
Mr. Briscoe was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Galena, one of nine children of the late George and Charity (Carroll) Briscoe, and the last survivor.
He was employed by Chrysler in Newark, Del., for more than 20 years, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1183.
Mr. Briscoe attended John Wesley Church, Sassafras, and oversaw the Olivet Hill Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline (Harris) Briscoe, in December 2006.
He is survived by a daughter, Earnestine Gillis of Smyrna, Del.; a niece and nephew whom he raised, Wendy Robinson of Galena and Nathaniel Hackett of Smyrna; four grandchildren, Shawnetta Bailey, and her husband, Howard, Charles Bessix, Ronald Gillis Jr., and Shauntay Smith, and her husband, Wayman; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour earlier.
