DOVER - Freeda Mae Rigby passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. She was a graduate of the Caesar Rodney Class of 1972 where she was known as an outstanding athlete. Freeda remained in the district for 25 years as a paraprofessional for the Visually Impaired Program where she was a certified Braille Transcriber. She also had been a coach for the high school field hockey team. Many students have fond memories of Miss Rigby. Freeda had a love of nature and especially for her dogs. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart and independent spirit. Freeda was predeceased by her parents, Reese Rigby and Joan Taylor; and her partner, Gail Shaughnessy. She leaves behind her brothers, Reese (Judy), Roy (Kim), Harry (Ann), and Morgan (Susan); as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where a gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m. A reception will follow at the Modern Maturity Center, Dover.
