Freeda Mae Rigby

DOVER - Freeda Mae Rigby passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. She was a graduate of the Caesar Rodney Class of 1972 where she was known as an outstanding athlete. Freeda remained in the district for 25 years as a paraprofessional for the Visually Impaired Program where she was a certified Braille Transcriber. She also had been a coach for the high school field hockey team. Many students have fond memories of Miss Rigby. Freeda had a love of nature and especially for her dogs. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart and independent spirit. Freeda was predeceased by her parents, Reese Rigby and Joan Taylor; and her partner, Gail Shaughnessy. She leaves behind her brothers, Reese (Judy), Roy (Kim), Harry (Ann), and Morgan (Susan); as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where a gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m. A reception will follow at the Modern Maturity Center, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to Delaware Hospice which provided compassionate care in her final days. Their address is 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
