DOVER — The Biggs Museum of American Art invites the community to celebrate the history of our country and learn more about the nation’s first president this Presidents Day.
On Monday, the museum will offer free admission, and all galleries will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At 1, join a lecture by Jessie MacLeod, associate curator at Mount Vernon, titled “Washington’s Mount Vernon & Its Objects.” Ms. MacLeod will provide a glimpse into the lives and tastes of George and Martha Washington by exploring their Mount Vernon home and its furnishings.
She has served on Mount Vernon’s curatorial staff since 2012 and has been part of numerous exhibitions, including “Mount Vernon: The Story of an American Icon” (2022) and the award-winning “Lives Bound Together: Slavery at George Washington’s Mount Vernon” (2016–21). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Yale University and an Master of Arts in public history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Presidents Day is also the last opportunity to catch the exhibition “Art Deco Glass From the David Huchthausen Collection,” which features 100 early 20th-century works by studios such as René Lalique, Daum Frères, Steuben Glass Works and many others.
On loan from the Museum of Glass, the clean lines, geometric shapes and bright colors found in each piece take viewers back to an extraordinary time in glass history. A last-chance guided tour to learn more about this display will be offered to the public at 11:30 a.m.
No registration is required. The Biggs Museum is at 406 Federal St.
