FREDERICA — A 28-year-old Frederica man was arrested Sunday after three motor vehicle thefts in a four-day span last week, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.
Karl Jones was taken into custody without incident at 3:30 p.m. at the Valero gas station, 7865 Old Beach Road, Frederica, where police said one of the thefts occurred Thursday. He was wanted on felony warrants connected to the thefts and had evaded police early Sunday morning, when he was spotted on foot on Maple Drive, Cpl. DeMalto said.
Police said the first vehicle was stolen Wednesday at La Ortolana Pizza & Ristorante, Magnolia. Following the theft at the Valero, there was a third Saturday on Maple Drive.
All three vehicles were recovered undamaged, close to where they had been stolen, and returned to their owners, Cpl. DeMalto said.
Mr. Jones was charged with motor vehicle theft (three counts), theft under $1,500 where victim is 62 or older and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $8,000 secured bond.
