FRANKFORD — Jair Fernandez-Hernandez, 21, of Frankford, was arrested on gun charges after troopers assisted emergency medical services at an incident last week, authorities said Thursday.
Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said that, at approximately 6:59 p.m. Jan. 9, officers responded to a residence in the 35000 block of Ash Lane in Frankford at the request of medical personnel at the scene.
When they arrived, troopers learned that Mr. Fernandez-Hernandez had been placed in an ambulance after he reported that he was not feeling well. The medics then discovered that he had a handgun in his pocket, Cpl. Hatchell said.
Police were able to disarm Mr. Fernandez-Hernandez without incident and recover the loaded gun. Afterward, they discovered that the suspect had threatened an acquaintance with the gun before the ambulance was called, the spokesman said.
Computer checks showed that Mr. Fernandez-Hernandez had been adjudicated as delinquent for a felony when he was a juvenile and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Also, the gun was reported as stolen in 2013 by the Johnston (Pennsylvania) Police Department, Cpl. Hatchell said.
The suspect refused medical treatment and was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, aggravated menacing and receiving a stolen firearm. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $18,000 secured bond.
