DOVER - Frank J. Abate "Pappy", 81 of Dover passed away May 15, 2012. Born in Wilmerding, Pa., he was the son of the late Peter C. and Carmella Abate. Frank had worked for many years with Webster's Menswear where he was responsible for all their interior designs. He also had owned four flower shops throughout the years. He had brought his talent to Holy Cross Church where he had volunteered his experience in the decorating of the church where he served with the Youth Ministry and the Eulogy Committee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4182 and was a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Cartwright Assembly. Frank had been a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Jessica Abate. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosemarie Abate; two children, Peter J. and wife Regina Abate of Wilmington, N.C. and Lucia Abate McGreevy and husband Lawrence of Dover; along with six grandchildren; Maximilian McGreevy, Rosemarie McGreevy, Lucia McGreevy, Christa Abate, Elena Abate and Regina Abate. A special sister and brother in-law, Connie and Jack Biedinger. Special nieces and nephews, Mary Francis and Denis Cloutier, Carmela and Fred Sicker, Tina Jason and Sierra Kane, Joann and Glen Noga, Richard and Lisa DeCenzo, Dom and Julie DeCenzo, Jack Biedinger and Bill Biedinger; along with many great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2012 in Holy Cross Church. A Reception will be held immediately following. Private Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
