FELTON - Francis M. "Mike" Barber, Tsgt., retired USAF, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital He was born in Holden, Mass. to the late Paul and Eleanor Barber. Mr. Barber served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of dedicated service. He served during the Vietnam War, and was stationed at various bases including ones in Australia, Japan, California, Florida and Delaware. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for ILC in Frederica for 9 years, and then worked at Harrington Raceway for 9 years as well. In his younger years, Mr. Barber was a Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts of America for several years. Mr. Barber was a patriotic member of the VFW for over 30 years. Everyone knew him as friendly and easy going, but he was also a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Johnny Barber . Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley (Wright) Barber, of Felton; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Deborah Barber, of Milford; sisters, Gerry Williams of Riegelwood, N.C., and Mary Whitfield, of Wallace, N.C.; grandchildren, Mackenzie Barber, Sean Wheeler, Erin Wheeler, and Patrick Wheeler; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Carter Sellards. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to your local VFW.
