Frances Silcox Clendaniel, 96 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Frances Silcox Clendaniel, age 96, of Chestertown, died on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Heron Point in Chestertown. She was the daughter of the late J. Horton and Elsie Green Silcox. She was the wife of the late John Brice "Jack" Clendaniel who died in 2003. A sister, Jean Silcox Baldwin, and her husband, Allen, of Chestertown, survive her. One sister, Ella Silcox, and three brothers: J. Horton, Charles and Thomas Silcox predecease her. A stepson, Douglas Clendaniel, of Bel Air, MD also survives her. A stepdaughter, Cynthia Clendaniel, predeceased her. She is survived by 14 nieces and nephews. Born in Kent County, Frances Silcox graduated from Chestertown High School in 1931 and Washington College in 1935. She taught in Caroline County before becoming a teacher and administrator for the Baltimore County Department of Education for 33 years. She retired in the 1970s. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as past president of the Chester River Hospital Auxiliary from 1990-1994. She was a member of the Chester River Yacht and County Club, the Retired Teachers Association of both Maryland and Kent County, and a life member of the Kent County Historical Society. She was instrumental in establishing the Cliff City School Museum. She was a past member of the Kent Farm Museum at Turner's Creek. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at St. Paul's Church, Kent, Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, Md. Interment will be in St. Paul's Parish Cemetery. Rev. G. Allen LaMontagne will officiate. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Kent County Farm Museum, Turners Creek, c/o 25809 Still Pond Neck Road, Still Pond, MD 21667 or Kent Center, 215 Scheeler Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
