DENTON - Frances Bridges, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at the Caroline Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Wilkes County, Ga., the second of six children in a close-knit family.
After graduating from high school, she vacationed with family in South Florida where she met and subsequently married Carl Bridges. They lived in southeast Florida until they retired.
She was the principal"s secretary at Martin County High School in Florida for 30 years. On retiring, they moved to the town of Plumtree in western North Carolina. She and her husband loved the mountains and its people and became mainstays in the little Presbyterian church of Plumtree. Their house, in a location high in the mountains was often the center of family gatherings for both their families, her cooking being one of the big attractions.
In their 80s they moved to Blairsville, Ga. to a retirement community near relatives. After her husband"s death in 2002, she moved to Maryland to be near her only child, Brooks Bridges.
Due to declining health she spent the last years of her life in the care of Caroline Nursing Home. Last December she enjoyed a last reunion with her remaining brother and sisters and their children, her son, granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her son, Brooks Bridges, his wife, Maureen, his son and daughter, their spouses and children, her two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held in Georgia at a later date.
Contributions can be made in her memory to the Caroline Nursing Home memorial fund, 520 Kerr Ave., Denton, MD 21629 or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are being handled by the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., in Greensboro.
