Fourth of July events to be held across Delaware

Aside from Dover and Smyrna-Clayton events, featured elsewhere in this section, here’s a look at other local Fourth of July celebrations:

•Bethany Beach

Parade at noon Monday, horseshoe-throwing contest at 2 p.m., awards ceremony at 7:15 p.m.; fireworks at dusk. Evening entertainment by Air National Guard of the Northeast .

•Dewey Beach

Fireworks above the inland bays at dusk Monday.

•Hockessin

Parade at 3 p.m. Monday on Old Lancaster Pike. Day continues with an eating contest, neighborhood relays and fun runs with fireworks at dusk.

•Laurel

Prayer breakfast at 8 a.m. Monday at Abbott’s Grill. Parade at 5:30 p.m.. followed by Miss Independence Pageant, cornhole tournament, pie eating contest and more.

Running with Scissors and Chain Break will perform on the Bandstand. Fireworks at dusk.

A carnival runs July 4-9.

•Lewes

Games for children starting at 9 a.m. Monday on Second Street. Boat parade along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal at 1:30 p.m. and the Doo-Dah Parade on Manilla Road at 5 p.m. No fireworks.

•Milton

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Milton Memorial Park Monday, festivities include a dunk tank, a pie baking contest, train rides, relay and sack races, chess matches and free games and activities for children. A highlight will be a bike decorating contest and bike parade at 11 a.m. sponsored by Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant.

Musical entertainment at the Gazebo will feature Walt Hetfield and DJ Jerry B.

•Middletown

Silver Lake Park opens at 6 p.m. Monday with food and fireworks.

•Newark

Starting at 6 p.m. Monday, the University of Delaware Athletic Complex will host fine arts and crafts booth, games for kids and live music.

Fireworks begin at dusk. Rain date is Tuesday.

•Rehoboth Beach

The Rehoboth Beach Main Street 2016 Fireworks Spectacular will begin at dusk Sunday. The Funsters will perform on the bandstand before and after the display.

Rain date will be Monday.

•Wilmington

Fireworks at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park Monday at dusk.
