After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the Food Bank of Delaware has announced that its food structure-building contest, CANgineering, is back.
Organizations interested in creating structures out of nonperishable food items have until April 29 to register.
CANgineering supports the year-round hunger-relief efforts of the Food Bank of Delaware. There are more than 114,000 food-insecure Delawareans — many experiencing it for the first time due to COVID-19.
After the holidays, food donations drop significantly. CANgineering was created in 2011 as a way to bolster contributions, while encouraging competition (a school-based competition will be available in the fall). Teams sign up, hold a food drive and use the items collected to create structures. Participants have built lighthouses, the Wilmington Blue Rocks’ mascot Mr. Celery, castles, barns, school buses, slices of pie and more.
