DOVER — Five people were arrested Monday during a search warrant execution in connection with two shootings at Whatcoat Village Apartments, Dover police said.
The incidents occurred July 24 and Aug. 9, spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said, and the first left a 15-year-old injured.
During the search warrant in the 900 block of Whatcoat Drive, officers located a revolver concealed in a toilet, a handgun and assorted ammunition, police said. The warrant was executed at 3:28 p.m. by Dover police and members of the U.S. Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force.
Duwayne Smith, 23, of Chestertown, Maryland, was arrested in connection with the July 24 shooting, Sgt. Hoffman said. He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (two counts), possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (four counts), tampering with physical evidence, second-degree conspiracy and reckless endangering (two counts). Mr. Smith was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $184,000 cash bond.
Four male juveniles — three of whom are age 17 and another age 16 — were also arrested during the search warrant Monday, two in connection with the Aug. 9 shooting, police said.
In that case, the 16-year-old and one of the 17-year-olds were each charged with first-degree reckless endangering (three counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a firearm during the commission of felony.
Regarding the search warrant, all four juveniles were charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), tampering with physical evidence and second-degree conspiracy.
The juvenile arrestees were all committed to Stevenson House Detention Center, Milford — the two juveniles in the shooting case on $26,500 secured and $49,000 cash bonds and the two others on $26,500 secured bonds.
