CAMBRIDGE - Florence Mae Brohawn, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge, MD. Born on Sept. 3, 1930 in Hooper's Island, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Rhodessa Tolley Stewart. Florence married Alonzo Jenkins with whom she mothered her only child "Butchie". Later in life she married Roy Brohawn who passed away in 1981. Several years later she began dating her life-long companion Melvin Condon who has also since passed away. She worked as a waitress at Whitey's Restaurant and as a crab picker for W.T. Ruark for many years. A lifetime member of VFW Post # 7460, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #91 and was a Gold Star Mother for 45 years. She was a member of the Hosier United Methodist Church. Surviving is a sister, Helen F. McCarty; niece, Sandra Bechtel; two great nieces, Tonya Colquhon, Crystal Davenport and their families. Preceding her in death was her son, Cecil Raymond "Butchie" Jenkins who died May 8, 1967 in the Vietnam War; sister, Nancy Klopp; nephew, Wayne McCarty. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Davenport, John Colquhoun and Brandon Greathouse. A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. Interment followed at Dorchester Memorial Park.
