HARRINGTON — A 42-year-old Maryland man was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after a fight was reported at Harrington Raceway and Casino early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Harrington Police, Jermaine L. Newcomb, of Hurlock, was arrested at approximately 12:39 a.m., after the Delaware State Police requested assistance for a fight in progress report. Mr. Newcomb was speaking to officers when they attempted to place him into handcuffs, police said.

Authorities alleged that Mr. Newcomb refused to follow officers commands to put his hands behind his back and resisted arrest. Mr. Newcomb supposedly continued to resist arrest and continued to refuse to follow officers commands, police claimed.

Police said a K-9 also assisted with taking Mr. Newcomb into custody. After a brief struggle Mr. Newcomb was placed in handcuffs, police said.

Mr. Newcomb was treated on scene by EMS Units for a dog bite to his lower leg and refused treatment to the hospital, authorities said.

Mr. Newcomb was then transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing. He was released pending a future court appearance.

Harrington police said an investigation into the incident was ongoing. Authorities declined further comment due to the investigation.
