Felton couple face drug charges following pursuit

WOODSIDE — Arthur Bentley, 56, and Stephanie Evans, 35 — both from Felton — were arrested by Delaware State Police on Thursday following a pursuit on alleged felony drug and related charges

Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, spokesman for the state police, said that around 11:25 p.m., the state police’s Kent County Governor’s Task Force saw Mr. Bentley and Ms. Evans inside a 2005 Toyota Sienna van near Millchop Lane and Walnut Shade Road.

Both suspects are currently wanted on several active capiases, have outstanding arrest warrants, and Ms. Evans, the driver of the van, has a suspended driver’s license.

Senior Cpl. Hatchell said police initiated a traffic stop but the suspect vehicle fled.

While in pursuit of the Sienna, troopers allegedly saw Mr. Bentley discarding suspected narcotics from the passenger side of the van on Barney Jenkins Road.

When the Sienna approached the stop sign at Barney Jenkins Road and Upper King Road, Mr. Bentley got out of the van and began to walk away. Ms. Evans continued to flee in the van.

Mr. Bentley allegedly resisted arrest initially but was successfully taken into custody a short time later. Troopers continued chasing Ms. Evans in the Sienna and saw her throwing suspected narcotics from the van.

She was taken into custody after exiting the van and running through a corn field on Turkey Point Road.

Subsequently, troopers found around 29.5 grams of methamphetamine, 1.134 grams of heroin, approximately 11.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $1,000 in suspected drug proceeds from inside the vehicle and discarded during the pursuit.

Mr. Bentley was charged with possession of a controlled substance in Tier 3 quantity (felony); possession of a controlled substance in Tier 1 quantity (felony); two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (felony); tampering with physical evidence (felony); resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana

Mr. Bentley was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $65,600 cash bond.

Ms. Evans was charged with possession of a controlled substance in Tier 3 Quantity (felony); possession of a controlled substance in Tier 1 quantity (felony); two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (felony); tampering with physical evidence (felony); disregard a police officer signal (felony); second-degree conspiracy (felony); resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana, and numerous traffic violations.

Ms. Evans was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in New Castle on $82,100 cash bond.
