DOVER — A 33-year-old man was charged with first- and second-degree child abuse for an alleged incident involving his newborn son, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Detectives were notified of a possible child abuse case on April 22 after Christopher Miller brought the baby to A.I. DuPont/Nemours Children’s Hospital for a lump/injury to his shoulder. The child was born in March.
During a subsequent medical screening, the child was discovered to have bruising all over his body and was suffering from several fractured bones at various stages of healing, Dover police said.
Detectives determined that Mr. Miller was a person of interest and a warrant was obtained for his arrest, Sgt. Hoffman said. He turned himself in to the Dover Police Department and was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 2, then released on a $12,000 unsecured bond.
Police said the child is in the care of a relative and Mr. Miller is not allowed to have contact with him.
The location of the alleged incident was listed as the 900 block of Buck Drive by police.
