CLAYTON — The body of Clayton Fire Co. Chief John M. Pridemore will be transported home Friday from the state’s Medical Examiner Unit in Wilmington.
Chief Pridemore died Tuesday from injuries suffered in an accident at the fire station.
Clayton fire personnel were advised to arrive at the Wilmington office by 11 a.m. Friday, with Chief Pridemore’s body to be released shortly after, spokesman Kevin Wilson said.
The escort south will include apparatus from the Clayton Fire Co., the Citizens’ Hose Co. of Smyrna and the American Legion Ambulance of Smyrna, Mr. Wilson added.
The procession also will involve motorcycle units from multiple Delaware police departments. In addition, each overpass will have various fire departments represented, he said.
While at the medical examiner’s office, members will honor Chief Pridemore by coming to attention and saluting as his body is placed into a hearse for transport to Faries Funeral Directors, Smyrna.
Upon arrival at the funeral home, the same honors will be given by attending firefighters.
Gov. John Carney has ordered the Delaware flag at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff until sunset on March 15 in honor of Chief Pridemore's service.
