Danny Rocco is heading back to one of his former schools.

The ex-Delaware head football coach will be a defensive analyst on the staff at Penn State, according to Sports Illustrated’s PSU page.

Rocco was fired in the off-season after compiling a record of 31-23 in five seasons as the Blue Hens’ coach.

The veteran coach played linebacker at Penn State in 1979 and ‘80 before transferring to Wake Forest. He has almost 40 seasons experience as a coach.

Besides Delaware, Rocco was also a head coach at Liberty and Richmond and was an assistant at Maryland, Texas, Boston College, Colorado and Wake Forest. He also worked with the New York Jets for a season.

“When you get guys like Danny Rocco to be able to join our program, not only his experience in the NFL, his experience as a head coach, his experience as a coordinator, and he’s also a letterman,” Penn State coach James Franklin was quoted.

“That’s also been an emphasis that we’ve seen in our staff as well. ... That’s been really valuable and exciting, having these guys back involved in the program.”

Penn State is slated to host the Blue Hens in 2023.
